New Delhi: “She used to call them ‘bhaiya’ (elder brother), and look what they did to her. This is barbaric,” said the father of the 6-year-old girl, who was gang-raped allegedly by three boys in Delhi’s Bhajanpura.
“They were our immediate neighbours till a few months back, until we changed our residential address after the death of our elder son.”
The gruesome gangrape took place 18 January, and it came to the family’s notice when the mother saw her daughter drenched in blood. Asked about the bleeding, the girl was too shocked and scared to say anything initially.
Though she was beaten up and threatened not to speak about it, her mother managed to coax her into disclosing the horror. The mother then approached the Jaffarabad Police station that day itself in Delhi’s North East district.
“She was raped by three boys from the same neighbourhood where we lived. She said that they told her that they would give Rs 10 for some food and asked her to reach the stairs of the unit they worked in,” the mother told ThePrint, adding that her daughter was tricked using a dummy currency note.
The mother works in a small packaging unit, while the father earns livelihood by driving a rickshaw.
Sources in the Delhi Police said that the two accused were apprehended immediately after an FIR was registered, but the main accused slipped away from the area. The eldest of the three accused is 15-year-old.
“He escaped and is suspected to be in Bihar. Teams have been dispatched to apprehend the accused. The medical report has confirmed rape, and the survivor has identified the two apprehended accused. A water-tight case will be made and will be taken to a logical conclusion,” a Delhi Police officer said.

‘Lured, gagged & raped’
Recalling the sequence of events, the mother said that her daughter was taken to a terrace of a nearby building where a bangle-making unit operated. “All three of them work in the unit there,” she told ThePrint.
She further said that when the trio was confronted about the injuries, they came up with an excuse that her daughter fell from the bike parked near the building. “I had doubts because there was no injury on any other parts of the body and calmed her down before she revealed the entire sequence of events.”
Since the three accused were from the same neighbourhood, it was not difficult for them to lure her daughter, she said. “On the terrace of the building housing the unit, she was harassed and then raped. Her mouth was gagged with clothes because of which she could not scream, and the monsters continued their vile act.”
Her daughter is in a state of shock and fear and unable to even eat properly due to the recurrent pain, she said, alleging that the investigation was slow, even after the two accused were promptly taken into custody.
“We have been protesting since Monday, as it has been over a week since the police are yet to get hold all the accused. The police probe was slow after initial steps, but we are hopeful that they will apprehend the main accused soon, and that my daughter will eventually get justice,” the father said.
