Kolkata, Jun 20 (PTI) A dedicated ‘Pink Room’ facility for women and children was inaugurated at the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) of West Bengal’s Petrapole Land Port on Saturday, officials said.

A newly constructed police station building was also handed over to the Bangaon Police District in North 24 Parganas.

The facilities were inaugurated during a programme attended by Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) Chairman Jayant Singh, the chief commissioner of customs, IGP and Bangaon SP, among others.

The ‘Pink Room’ is aimed at providing “a safe and comfortable space for women, children and vulnerable travellers using the busy international land border crossing between India and Bangladesh”, an official said.

Singh handed over the newly constructed police station building to the Bangaon Police District, Petrapole Land Port Manager Kamlesh Saini told PTI.

Petrapole is India’s largest land port, and serves as a key gateway for trade and passenger movement between India and Bangladesh, the officials said. PTI BSM RBT
