Kolkata, Sep 3 (PTI) Three members of an inquiry commission, set up by the West Bengal government to investigate institutional corruption, on Thursday conducted a search operation at the office and factory shed of two chemical product manufacturing units, purportedly co-owned by dissident TMC leader and former Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim, officials said.
The operation, allegedly made to look into the business propriety of the two companies – Hakim Polymakers Private Limited and Hakim Chemicals – began at around 12.30 pm after the inquiry team arrived at the factory plot in the New Alipore area of southern Kolkata and continued for about an hour and a half.
A member of the inspection panel told reporters that the visit was prompted by a complaint concerning the plot over which the factory shed had been built, but refused to divulge further details.
“We have found the necessary information we had come to collect today,” the official said.
The website of Hakim Polymakers described the company profile as “manufacturer and trader of high-quality HDPE Polyethylene Film, LD LLDPE Polyethylene, and much more” and names Firhad Hakim as its “founder”.
According to sources, the unlisted company was incorporated on April 23, 2025 and has Hakim and one Samir Ghosh as directors.
Priyadarshini Hakim, purportedly the mayor’s relative, was included in the company board on September 11, 2025, information available in the public domain revealed.
The company’s registered address is 32A, Tollygunge Circular Road, New Alipore, with an authorised capital of Rs 10 lakhs and a paid-up capital of Rs 1 lakh, the company’s ROC filings said.
Listed under state pollution and industrial monitoring records for plastic and polythene processing/manufacturing operations, Hakim Chemicals was mentioned by the leader in his election affidavit as a godown, owned and managed within his familial holdings.
The inquiry commission, set up in line with pre-election promises of the BJP, has Biswajit Basu, a retired Justice of the Calcutta High Court, as its chairman, while ADG K Jayaraman serves as its member secretary.
Hakim, also a former minister in Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet and once a close aide of the party supremo, refused to comment on the development.
