Jhargram, Oct 22 (PTI): West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to visit Kalajhoria village in Jhargram district on Friday, fulfilling a promise he made during his election campaign to return to the predominantly Lodha-Sabar tribal settlement if the BJP came to power, officials said.

Preparations for the chief minister’s programme at Bankati football ground, adjacent to Thakursthan school in the village near Manikpara, have been completed, they said on Thursday.

During the programme, Adhikari is expected to distribute benefits and assistance under various government schemes to members of the Lodha-Sabar community, classified as a particularly vulnerable tribal group.

He may also launch a state government nutrition initiative by distributing nutritional supplies to underprivileged residents, BJP state committee member Sukhmay Satpathi said.

Kalajhoria is located around 1.5 to 2 km from the state highway connecting Jhargram to Manikpara via Beltala.

During the 2026 Assembly election campaign, Adhikari, who was then the Leader of the Opposition, visited the village and had lunch at the home of a member of the Sabar community.

He had promised to return if his party formed the government. The BJP subsequently came to power in West Bengal, with Adhikari becoming chief minister.

Former Jhargram MP Kunar Hembram had adopted Kalajhoria village during his tenure as a parliamentarian.

Security personnel from the district and state inspected the venue to assess arrangements and infrastructure ahead of the chief minister’s visit.

A helipad has been constructed near the venue, where a helicopter trial run was also conducted, officials said. PTI COR SUS MNB
