Beed, Jul 18 (PTI) A court in Maharashtra’s Beed district has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after convicting him of the murder of an 18-year-old youth more than two years ago.
In his verdict on Friday, Additional Sessions Judge (Kaij) Rahimat K Shaikh held that the offence committed by the accused, Ajinkya, alias Sunny Shamrao Landge, was of an “exceptionally grave nature”.
According to the prosecution, Landge and victim Gorakh Mahavir Hajare had an argument over a trivial matter in Kaij in April 2024. During the confrontation, Landge threatened to kill Hajare.
A short while later, Landge approached the victim from behind and attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon, slashing his neck. Hajare suffered massive blood loss and died.
During the trial, the prosecution examined five key eyewitnesses. The court relied on their testimonies, medical evidence and other documentary records while convicting Landge. Assistant Public Prosecutor Ram Birangal argued the case on behalf of the government.
Judge Shaikh later handed a rigorous life sentence to Landge and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on him. PTI COR NR
