Beed, Sep 13 (PTI) In a crackdown ahead of the upcoming Ganesh festival, the Beed district administration has detained a 39-year-old habitual bootlegger under the stringent Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, an official said on Sunday.
The detainee, identified as Kishor Baburao Jadhav of Chanai in Ambajogai tehsil, was taken into custody on Saturday following orders issued by District Collector Vivek Johnson and subsequently lodged at the Harsul Central Prison in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the official said.
The Ambajogai City police station had submitted a proposal seeking Jadhav’s preventive detention as a dangerous bootlegger under the MPDA, which received approval from the collector on Friday.
Jadhav faces six serious criminal cases under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act involving the manufacturing, transportation, and illegal sale of illicit country-made liquor.
Although authorities had previously initiated preventive legal action against him under Section 93 of the Prohibition Act in August 2025, Jadhav continued operating his illicit liquor network undeterred, the official added.
SP Navneet Kanwat warned that the district police will continue to invoke stringent preventive laws, including the MPDA Act and the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), against sand mafias, illegal gutkha distributors, extortionists, illegal gambling operators, and elements attempting to disrupt communal harmony.
