BDO killed in accident in UP’s Gonda

Gonda (UP), Jan 26 (PTI) The Katra Bazar block development officer died in a road accident here, police said on Thursday.

Ram Prakash Maurya (51) was on his way to his office for a flag hoisting ceremony on republic Day when he was hit by a vehicle laden with construction material at the Mahadeva railway crossing, they said.

Maurya was drinking water on the side of the road when he was hit. He was rushed to the district hospital where doctors declared him dead, the police said.

His body has been sent to his native place after the necessary formalities were completed, Chief Medical Officer Dr Rashmi Verma said.

An FIR has been lodged against the vehicle driver on the basis of a complaint lodged by Maurya’s son and he has been taken into custody for questioning, Kotwali Nagar police station SHO Rakesh Kumar Singh said.

Senior officials and local people’s representatives have expressed grief at the death of Maurya. PTI COR SAB SZM
