Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), Jul 22 (PTI) Four unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants waylaid a ‘bank mitra’ (banking agent) near Tulsirampurwa in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Tuesday and snatched a bag from him containing of Rs 4 lakh in cash, police said.

SP Sankalp Sharma, Additional SP Pawan Gautam and other police officers inspected the scene of crime and spoke to the bank mitra, Amit Kumar Shukla.

Citing the victim’s statement, Gautam told reporters that Shukla was on his way to his bank collection centre at Vali village when four miscreants riding a bike waylaid him near Tulsirampurwa and took away the bag containing Rs 4 lakh.

Based on Shukla’s complaint, a case has been registered, and the matter is being investigated, he said, adding that multiple teams have been formed to crack the case.

Bank mitras act as an extension of banking institutions, reaching out to areas where setting up bank branches is not feasible.

They facilitate the account opening process, making it convenient for people in remote areas to access formal banking services. PTI COR NAV ARI
