Guwahati, Sep 18 (PTI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said bamboo is bringing new opportunities for people of the state.
He also urged cycling enthusiasts to try a bamboo cycle developed in the state next month during its trial run.
In a social media post on the occasion of ‘World Bamboo Day’, he said the tall grass was opening avenues for entrepreneurship and sustainable growth in the state.
“From everyday products to new industries, Assam’s bamboo is creating new opportunities for our people,” Sarma said.
“On World Bamboo Day, we celebrate how bamboo is driving skills, livelihoods, entrepreneurship and new avenues for sustainable growth across Assam,” the chief minister said.
In another post, Sarma said the state’s “bamboo story is ready to roll”.
He maintained that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reform recognising bamboo as grass opened new avenues for livelihoods and green industry in the state.
“Today, we take that vision forward with the Assam Bamboo Cycle, a bicycle crafted from bamboo,” Sarma said, as he called enthusiasts to try the innovation on October 2 at a trial run at the Brahmaputra Riverfront in Guwahati. PTI SSG ACD SSG RBT
