Mumbai: Mumbai civic authorities found a baby crocodile taking a dip at a swimming pool on Tuesday morning but are yet to determine how it got there.
A lifeguard on duty found the two-foot-long crocodile frolicking in Dadar’s Mahatma Gandhi Swimming Pool around 5.30 am on Wednesday, as he checked the waters before swimmers dove in.
He caught the reptile but was bitten in the process, according to the civic authority.
The crocodile was rescued with the help of experts and was handed over to the forest department, the Olympic-sized pool’s coordinator Sandeep Viashampayan said.
In addition to the recent crocodile sighting, there are reports of crocodile-infested waters in various regions, highlighting the need for awareness and safety measures in areas where these reptiles may be present.
Deputy Commissioner (Gardens) of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Dr Kishori Gandhi, said the civic body would investigate how the crocodile made its way into the swimming pool. “Safety precautions will accordingly be taken in future,” he added.
