Ayodhya, Sep 1 (PTI) A court in Ayodhya on Tuesday adjourned till September 9 the hearing on an application filed by an accused in the Ram temple donation case seeking unfreezing of his bank account, his lawyer said.
The application was filed by Subhash Srivastava, a retired State Bank of India employee who was involved in counting donations at the Ram temple. He is among eight accused currently lodged in jail in connection with the alleged theft of temple donations.
The plea was heard before Judge Rajat Verma of the Anti-Corruption Court in Ayodhya, Srivastava’s lawyer Kul Shekhar Singh told PTI.
During the hearing, the defence argued that the police allegation that illicit money had been deposited into Srivastava’s account was baseless, the lawyer said.
Singh said the account in question is with Canara Bank and receives Srivastava’s pension, which is used to support his family. The defence urged the court to allow the account to be unfrozen, arguing that the police had so far failed to establish its allegations.
The court did not pass any order on the application on Tuesday and fixed September 9 as the next date of hearing, the lawyer said. PTI KIS RT RT
