Hamirpur, Jun 24 (PTI) The Hamirpur district health authorities have taken precautionary measures following the spread of rabies in some parts of the Nadaun revenue subdivision of the district in Himachal Pradesh.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Ajay Atri said on Wednesday that the Health Department immediately took precautionary measures after receiving the news of the death of a man from Jammu — who had been residing in Bhalun village of Nadaun subdivision — due to rabies at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda.
He said in a statement that a team of the department contacted the deceased’s family, gathered detailed information about the case, and provided them with medical counselling.
They were informed about the causes of rabies transmission, its symptoms, and preventive measures. Local residents have also been sensitised. The medical officer in-charge of the Sera Primary Health Centre visited the village.
The chief medical officer said that necessary steps, in accordance with public health protocols, have been taken in Bhalun village as a precaution, and active surveillance has been ensured.
He said that instructions have been issued to all ASHA workers and Health Department field staff to immediately report cases of dog or other animal bites in their respective areas and to promptly refer victims for anti-rabies vaccination.
Adequate availability of anti-rabies vaccines has been ensured at all health centres in the district. Officials from the Animal Husbandry Department have been requested to examine suspected animals.
Atri also appealed to residents to seek immediate treatment at the nearest health centre and get vaccinated against rabies if bitten by a dog or any other animal. PTI COR BPL MNK MNK
