Mumbai, May 16 (PTI) Maharashtra minister Ganesh Naik on Saturday said attempts were made to corner Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as he belongs to the Brahmin community.
Naik, a BJP MLA from Airoli in Navi Mumbai, however, did not provide details on who tried to corner Fadnavis. It remained unclear whether his remarks were directed at any political leader, party or those representing caste groups.
“Sometimes caste becomes a curse for a person and at times it becomes a boon. Devendra Fadnavis is a capable leader. He tried to deliver justice to all sections of society. Yet attempts were made to corner him because he is a Brahmin,” Naik said at the National Agari Spiritual Convention in Pen in neighbouring Raigad district.
He was talking on issues related to caste when he made the statement.
Naik also spoke about the role of money in present-day politics, asserting that nothing works without financial strength.
“If your thinking is clean, there is no guarantee people will elect you. If your mind is clean, it leads to mental stability, then physical stability. From that comes social work, then economics, and in today’s politics nothing functions without economics,” he said. PTI ND BNM
