New Delhi: The Haryana Police on Tuesday registered a case against unknown suspects based on allegations by a businessman that he was called a “Khalistani” and attacked the night before by bike-borne assailants in Kaithal city.
The charges of “insulting religious beliefs” and “criminal intimidation” were invoked in the first information report registered on the complaint of Sukhwindar Singh, who owns a furniture showroom in Kaithal city.
A video of Singh, alleging the attack by bikers, has surfaced on social media and although he was taken to the hospital by the police on Monday night, he did not immediately record his statement.
Local station house officer Inspector Sheela told ThePrint that eyewitnesses at the site revealed a contrasting picture of the incident.
According to them, Singh, who was riding his scooter late on Monday evening, got into a verbal duel with two men on a bike at a railway crossing in Kaithal city.
Kaithal Superintendent of Police Upasana said Singh’s medical report confirmed he was drunk on Monday evening and that allegations made by him were yet to be substantiated.
“We have to substantiate allegations made in the complaint and are looking to arrest the accused. CCTVs are being scanned, and we are hopeful of catching the duo soon,” the Kaithal SP told ThePrint.
