Attack on Bittu at Mann, Kejriwal’s ‘behest’ shows AAP’s ‘panic’: BJP

New Delhi, Sep 18 (PTI) The BJP on Friday blamed Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal for a “cowardly” attack on the convoy of BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu in Pathankot, and alleged that the attack was carried out at their behest and represented the “dirtiest manifestation” of the AAP government’s panic.

Bittu, a former Union minister, claimed that his cavalcade was attacked allegedly by AAP workers near Batala in Punjab when he was en route to attend his party’s anti-drug yatra in Pathankot.

He claimed that over 100 AAP workers targeted the cavalcade and hurled stones and eggs at it.

In a post on X, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh slammed the AAP government, alleging that the fear of the law has completely vanished in Punjab and a “mafia raj” is operating openly.

“This cowardly attack on the convoy of BJP leader Ravneet Bittu in Pathankot, carried out at the behest of Guru Dokhi Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal, is the dirtiest manifestation of AAP’s panic, frustration and dictatorial tendencies. Today in Punjab, the fear of the law has completely vanished, and an open ‘mafia raj’ is being run,” he said.

He alleged that Punjab’s ruling party, which is unable to manage the state’s law and order situation, is resorting to “cheap tactics and hooliganism” to intimidate BJP leaders and workers.

“This incident stands as stark proof of the crumbling law and order and the unchecked ‘Mafia Raj’; when even a leader with Z-plus security is not safe, one can only imagine the vulnerability of the common citizen in Punjab, left entirely to the mercy of God,” he said.

“Let this deaf ‘AAP’ government and the goons it harbours listen carefully: such cowardly attacks and hollow threats will not break the resolve of our leaders and workers. If this brazen lawlessness and open ‘Mafia Raj’ are not halted immediately, the response will be so crushing that it will shatter their arrogance and bring them back to reality,” he added.

BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi also hit out at Mann and AAP, saying those currently occupying positions of power and “intoxicated by authority” will soon be sobered up by the people of Punjab.

He alleged that the party has plunged the state’s youth into the “abyss of drug addiction”.

“The people of Punjab will shatter that intoxication and strip away the arrogance that has filled their minds,” Trivedi told a press conference at the BJP headquarters here, when asked about the alleged attack. PTI ADI ADI KSS KSS

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
