New Delhi: At a cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated him on the success of the 22 January pran pratishtha of Ram Lalla at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

Rajnath said Modi had fulfilled a dream that Indians had dreamt of for centuries, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said at a press briefing later, adding that the defence minister called the cabinet meeting “historic”, even if one counted similar “executive council” meetings during the time of British viceroys.

“This moment has come after centuries, after the wait of years. India’s ‘body’ became independent in 1947 but the country’s pran pratishtha happened on 22 January. Fate chose you for this,” Rajnath told Modi.

He further said that Ram was India’s fate which was realised on 22 January. “This moment comes in many births. We are all fortunate to be present in the cabinet today. The Prime Minister has with his work uplifted the confidence of the country, and strengthened its cultural ethos,” the defence minister said.

Rajnath said such unity in the country was last seen at a mass movement during the Emergency but that was against a dictatorship. “The movement for Lord Ram heralds a new era,” he told his colleagues.

He said the revolution of the Ram Janmabhoomi was a singular event of free India, eulogising the 11-day religious cleansing rituals that Modi undertook to lead the prayers on 22 January. The defence minister said this had enthused the national fervour of the people.

Rajnath added that since the Ram Mandir had arrived “to give direction to the people for thousands of years”, Wednesday’s cabinet meeting could easily be called the “cabinet meeting of the millenium”.
