Guwahati, Oct 13 (PTI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said his government was committed to building modern sports infrastructure across the state, stressing that investment in such facilities was essential to identifying and nurturing talent at the grassroots.

After inaugurating a multi-sports complex at Naharkatia in Dibrugarh district, he expressed hope that the facility would help aspiring sportspersons to hone their skills and bring laurels to Assam.

The Assam government was committed to developing modern sports infrastructure across the state so that young athletes, including those from remote areas, have access to quality facilities and opportunities to pursue their ambitions, the chief minister said.

He said that investment in sports infrastructure was essential to identifying and nurturing grassroots talent and creating easy pathways for young people to participate in sports.

The first-of-its-kind facility in the Naharkatia Assembly constituency brings together facilities for football, athletics and swimming within an integrated campus.

It also features a gymnasium, a medical and first-aid room, a canteen, administrative offices and other essential amenities. PTI SSG SSG NSD

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
