Guwahati, Aug 15 (PTI) The flood situation in Assam improved on Saturday, with the number of affected people coming down to 62,000 and the count of the deluge-hit districts decreasing to five, an official bulletin said.
The toll in this year’s flood remained at 104, as no deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, it said.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin, 16 revenue circles and 235 villages in Golaghat, Hojai, Nagaon, Sivasagar and Jorhat remained affected.
The number of flood-hit people was 62,443, with Nagaon having the highest count at 33,332, followed by Golaghat (12,641) and Jorhat (8,523).
On Friday, seven districts were reeling under the deluge, with over 78,000 people affected.
Altogether, 28 relief camps were operational, sheltering over 4,800 displaced people. In addition, nine relief distribution centres were also being operated by the administration.
The ASDMA bulletin said a crop area of 4,954.43 hectares remained submerged.
Over 21,000 animals have been affected, including more than 10,000 big ones and over 3,500 poultry.
Damage to infrastructure such as houses, cattle sheds, fisheries and health centres was also reported in the affected districts, the bulletin said. PTI SSG BDC
