Guwahati, May 16 (PTI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday held review meetings of the Health and Medical Education and Mines and Minerals departments to lay the groundwork for policy initiatives in the coming months.

The chief minister also sought updates on the construction progress of 10 medical colleges in the state.

”Keeping with our goal of building a Swasth Assam, I have sought an update on the construction progress of 10 medical colleges in Assam,” Sarma said in a post on X.

He directed that health institutions create facilities for robotic surgeries, liver transplants and the application of artificial intelligence in medical processes in a phased manner.

“At the same time, every district must begin work on a nursing college,” he said.

“We also reviewed the progress of proton beam therapy, GMCH expansion and the functioning of Ayushman Bharat, Ayushman Assam and our cancer centres,” Sarma added.

The chief minister said patient care facilities in hospitals, medicine supply and filling up of vacancies were also reviewed in detail.

On the mines and minerals sector, Sarma said Assam has known reserves of rare earth and other key minerals essential for Industry 4.0.

“I have asked my officials to begin exploration work in sync with government of India policies,” he said.

He added that ongoing mineral exploration had already led to investment commitments of over Rs 50,000 crore.

”At the same time, I have also emphasised that all mining operations must be in a sustainable manner within the existing green framework,” Sarma added. PTI DG DG MNB
