Itanagar, Jun 14 (PTI) The Arunachal Pradesh government has ordered the immediate release of the monthly wages of 4,745 excess casual, contingency, and work-charged employees of various departments as an interim relief, according to an official notification.

The order came after an inquiry panel’s report highlighted massive unauthorised engagements beyond the state’s sanctioned strength.

According to the official document, an inquiry headed by the Public Works Department’s principal secretary discovered 4,745 excess personnel, which includes 4,427 casual or contingency workers and 318 work-charged employees.

The probe highlighted that these appointments violated established protocols and were not cleared against government-sanctioned posts.

While the state government continues to evaluate the inquiry’s structural findings through inter-departmental consultations, it decided to lift the wage freeze that had been in place since February 24 this year.

Officials said the decision to resume payments was made on compassionate grounds to provide relief to the affected workforce until a final policy decision is reached.

To prevent future irregular appointments, the state government is processing the PIO’s recommendations, which include implementing a strict Division and Drawing and Disbursing Officer-wise distribution of posts, alongside placing tight restrictions on shifting personnel across different zones, circles, and divisions.

The notification clarified that funds will be released by district treasuries and sub-treasuries only after receiving a joint, signed notification detailing the formal distribution of these posts. The verification must be validated under the joint signatures of both the respective head of department and the head of office. PTI COR NSD
