New Delhi, Aug 22 (PTI) A 26-year-old jawan in the Army was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a hotel room in southwest Delhi’s Satya Niketan area on Saturday, police said.

A PCR call regarding the development was received at the South Campus police station at around 12:20 pm, following which police personnel rushed to the hotel, where the man was found hanging inside a room.

Deceased Anil Sai Tejja Vallepu, a resident of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, was serving in the Army and was posted in Hisar, police said, adding that a suicide note was also found from the room.

A preliminary inquiry revealed that Vallepu had checked into the hotel on August 19 and was staying there alone.

The crime team was called to the spot and it examined the scene as part of the investigation, police said.

According to police, the suicide note found from the room did not contain any allegations against anyone. Police are looking into the circumstances surrounding the Army jawan’s death and verifying the sequence of events preceding the incident.

The body was shifted to the Safdarjung Hospital for further necessary proceedings, including post-mortem, a police officer said.

Further proceedings under section 194 (police to enquire and report on suicide) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) are being carried out, police said. PTI BM RC

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
