Amaravati, Oct 14 (PTI) The IAF will conduct training exercises involving its SAGW systems at its Suryalanka station in Bapatla district from December, during which public access to the adjoining beach will be restricted.

The training will be conducted in two phases, from December 1 to 11 and December 12 to 24, between 6 am and 10 pm, according to a government notification issued under Section 3A of the Seaward Artillery Practice Act, 1949.

“Training exercises for the operation of Surface-to-Air Guided Weapon systems will be held at the Indian Air Force station in Suryalanka from December 1 to 24, during which the general public will not be permitted to enter the adjoining beach area,” a press release said on Wednesday.

The coastal area adjoining the Suryalanka Air Force Station in Bapatla mandal has been declared a dangerous zone during the specified hours, the notification said.

Areas extending up to 100 km into the sea within a 110-degree sector from designated firing points, as well as areas within a 200-degree sector from ground level to unlimited altitude, have been identified as unsafe zones.

The authorities have been directed to issue warnings to prevent people from entering the designated areas. The public has been advised to follow safety instructions and cooperate with officials during the training period. PTI MS SSK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
