Andhra HC judges bid farewell to CJ Thakur; Lisa Gill to take over

Amaravati, Apr 24 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh High Court judges, lawyers, and others bid farewell on Friday to Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur on his superannuation, as his successor Justice Lisa Gill is set to assume office from April 25.

Addressing Justice Thakur’s farewell, Justice Gill said he was an example of service-oriented contribution to the judiciary.

“Talented judge Justice Thakur was an embodiment of an administrator with foresight and humanitarian values,” said a press release, quoting Justice Gill.

She said Justice Thakur’s services would remain etched in Andhra Pradesh’s judicial history.

Justice Gill is set to assume office as the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh from Saturday.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Smt. Justice Lisa Gill, Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh with effect from April 25,” said G Pratibha Devi, Andhra Pradesh Legal Secretary, while republishing a Government of India notification.

Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer also congratulated Justice Gill on her appointment as Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.

“I extend my hearty congratulations and best wishes to Smt Justice Lisa Gill on her appointment as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. I wish her a successful and fruitful tenure,” Nazeer said in a post on X. PTI STH SSK
