New Delhi, Oct 19 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah will launch several sewerage infrastructure projects in Delhi on October 22, Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Verma said on Monday.

The projects, including decentralised sewage treatment plants (DSTPs) and new sewer lines, will be launched from the Najafgarh area, Verma said at a press conference.

“Once all these works are completed over the next two to two-and-a-half years, no untreated wastewater from Delhi will flow into the drains and, through them, into the Yamuna. We will then be able to see the impact of these efforts on our sacred river,” he said.

The Delhi government had earlier announced plans to set up around 30 decentralised sewage treatment plants through the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to bridge existing gaps in sewage treatment.

Where large sewage treatment plants (STPs) cannot be constructed due to space constraints, the DJB plans to install 40 DSTPs to ensure localised wastewater treatment, Verma said.

He also said nearly 35,000 residents participated in a recent cleaning drive at Yamuna ghats. PTI SSM MDO

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
