New Delhi, Oct 13 (PTI) Dr B R Ambedkar University on Tuesday alleged that a group of protesting students damaged university property and engaged in physical altercations with security personnel on its Kashmere Gate campus.

In a statement, the university said the incident happened around 7 pm, when the students, who were on a sit-in without prior permission, allegedly attempted to disrupt campus discipline

The university alleged that the protesters were involved in scuffles with male and female security personnel deployed on campus.

Varsity officials faced abusive behaviour when they tried to initiate a dialogue with the students to defuse the situation, it said.

The administration said it informed the police about the row for the safety and security of other students, the statement said.

The university also maintained that all “genuine and permissible” demands raised by the protesting students have already been addressed by the administration.

Describing the alleged acts of indiscipline and damage to property as “unfortunate and condemnable”, the university said action would be taken under its rules and disciplinary provisions. PTI AHD VN

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
