Mansa (Punjab), Jul 13 (PTI) Shiromani Akali Dal leader Dalvir Singh Kala was shot at and injured by an unidentified motorcycle-borne assailant in Bareta town here on Monday evening, police said.
According to eyewitnesses, Kala, a former Zila Parishad member, was preparing to leave for home from his shop in the grain market when the incident occurred. They said an unidentified man on a motorcycle intercepted Kala and opened fire before fleeing.
“It appeared that a single bullet was fired,” local resident Gurjant Singh said, adding that the man appeared to be in his 20s.
Kala sustained a bullet injury and was rushed to a hospital for treatment, police said.
Police said an investigation has been launched into the incident, and efforts are underway to catch the assailant. CCTV camera footage from the area is being scanned as part of the probe, they said. PTI SUN RHL RHL
