Ranchi, Sep 13 (PTI) The AJSU Party on Sunday staged a protest here over alleged “police atrocities” against student protesters who were demonstrating against irregularities in various state-level competitive examinations.
Hundreds of party workers and leaders gathered at Albert Ekka Chowk here and burnt an effigy of the state government. They shouted anti-government slogans and demanded the withdrawal of cases against students, and a CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
“We demand the withdrawal of cases against protesting students and an impartial probe into the alleged police atrocities against them. They raised the issues of malpractice, corruption and liaisoning in the state examination agencies like the JPSC and JSSC in a phased manner, but the JMM-led alliance government tried to suppress their voice by taking police action against them,” AJSU Party media coordinator Parwaz Khan told PTI.
The party vehemently opposes the repressive policies of the government on students’ issues and will continue its struggle from the streets to the House for their legitimate right to the fair and equitable conduct of examinations by state agencies, he said.
“We also demand a CBI probe into the entire matter. The police action against students who were putting forth their demands peacefully raises serious questions about the democratic system. Lathi charge is not a solution to the problem, but proof of the government’s failure and insensitivity,” AJSU party Ranchi district president Sanjay Mahto said.
A total of six FIRs were lodged against 53 named and more than 1,100 unnamed people in connection with clashes that broke out between the police and protesting job aspirants in Ranchi, Giridih and Hazaribagh districts over the burning of the effigy of CM Hemant Soren. The students have been booked for allegedly obstructing government work and clashing with police.
The Jharkhand government on August 18 cancelled 22 job exams and ordered a probe into 23 others conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) and an outsourced agency since 2014. PTI RPS RPS RG
