New Delhi, Sep 17 (PTI) The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here has transferred an artificial intelligence-based technology developed to help interpret mammography examinations to BPL Technologies Ltd, the institute said on Thursday.
The technology transfer took place on September 16 in the presence of AIIMS Director Dr Nikhil Tandon and BPL Technologies CFO Ajay Jindal.
The AI-based mammography interpretation model has been developed by AIIMS-Delhi to support radiologists, particularly in places where specialised breast-imaging experts are limited, the institute said.
The transfer is part of an industry-academia collaboration aimed at taking research developed at the medical institute towards further development, validation and potential clinical use.
Dr Tandon stressed the importance of translating research generated in academic institutions into solutions that address real-world healthcare needs.
He expressed hope that the initiative would pave the way for more such developments from AIIMS, reflecting the institute’s focus on innovation, technology development and the translation of biomedical research into clinical applications.
The technology was developed by a group that included researchers from AIIMS’ radiology and machine-learning engineering teams.
Dr Krithika Rangarajan, associate professor in the Department of Radiology, acknowledged the contributions of the AIIMS technology team, research section and the Ministry of Education, which funded the project.
The project also involved radiologists Dr Amit Gupta and Dr Varun Holla, machine-learning engineers Om Shivom, Kushagra Chaturvedi and Aashish Rastogi, and a managerial team led by Hema Malhotra.
The technology transfer ceremony was also attended by Prof Govind Makharia, Associate Dean (Research), Prof Velpandian, Head of the IPR Cell, and Prof Smriti Hari, Professor, Department of Radiology, AIIMS, along with senior members of BPL Technologies.
