Tiruppur (TN) Sep 28 (PTI) AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday alleged that the ruling TVK, gripped by the fear of defeat in the bypolls, was misusing police to foist cases on his party workers and cripple their campaign.
He strongly condemned what he called the registration of cases and arrest of party workers on “false charges” ahead of the Oct 6 Dharapuram Assembly bypoll.
Addressing an election rally here, Palaniswami warned that he will lead agitations if the disruption of election work continued.
The former chief minister said: “Slapping cases on party workers, intimidating them, and arresting them to prevent them from carrying out election duties is strongly condemnable.”
Urging the police to “perform their duties impartially rather than acting at the behest of the ruling party,” Palaniswami said power is not permanent.
Launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, Palaniswami accused the actor-turned-politician of delivering theatrical dialogues on political platforms to mislead the electorate.
Palaniswami said, “the failure to release water,” from the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) canal at the appropriate time had caused widespread damage to crops, drying up valuable coconut groves and devastating farmers.
He further accused the government of “failing to deliver on core poll promises,” including comprehensive agricultural loan waivers.
