Kolkata, Sep 18 (PTI) ABVP, the student wing of the RSS, along with the West Bengal University Employees’ Association affiliated to the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh organised Vishwakarma Puja at two campuses of Jadavpur University on Friday.
The puja was organised at the technology building on the main campus and at the university’s Salt Lake campus, with students and teaching and non-teaching staff participating in the celebrations.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) spokesperson Subhabrata Adhikari said the event was aimed at highlighting the university’s tradition of work culture, creativity, knowledge and technology.
The ABVP said it was seeking to strengthen its presence at the university, which has historically had a strong Left student presence.
The event comes amid heightened political activity on the campus, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari recently speaking about confronting Left-wing politics at the institution.
The parishad said the university was established keeping in mind the ideals associated with Rishi Aurobindo and patriotic and nationalist values.
The organisation has previously held religious and cultural events on the campus, including Saraswati Puja and Ram Navami celebrations.
