New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has rescued 52 civilians and evacuated 2,206 people to safety during the past week as heavy rains and floods caused havoc in several states, officials said Friday.
Heavy rains and landslides in Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman, and Jammu and Kashmir wrought widespread damage in July, they said.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs Integrated Control Room (ICR-ER) is working in close coordination with other central agencies including India Meteorological Department (IMD), Central Water Commission (CWC) and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) for raising timely alerts to State Emergency Operation Centres and District Emergency Operation Centres,” an official statement said.
Besides disseminating early warnings up to states/Union territories and districts, the control room is monitoring all the rescue activities round-the-clock, it added.
The NDRF is working in close coordination with state agencies, police and disaster response units in all these places for rescue and relief operations.
Anticipating floods and landslides in vulnerable areas, the NDRF has pre-positioned teams at these locations to reduce response time, the statement said.
“During the last one week, 52 civilians have been rescued by NDRF teams whereas 2,206 civilians were evacuated to safer places across all the affected States/UTs,” it said.
Inter-ministerial central teams have visited affected areas in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam from July 07 to July 10 for assessing the extent of damage and to provide necessary financial assistance to these states from NDRF, the statement said.
“Another Inter-Ministerial Central Team is scheduled to visit the affected area of Assam from 25.07.2026 for assessing loss and damage caused due to incessant rains and floods,” it said. PTI ABS ARB ARB
