Muzaffarnagar (UP), Sep 2 (PTI) Five people have been arrested and a juvenile taken into police protection in connection with a clash between two groups in Belda village in the Bhopa area here, police said on Wednesday.
Circle Officer Lakshman Verma said a case under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) was registered against eight people, including Rizwan, Afzal, Bholu, Bakshi and Ajuba, besides a juvenile.
Five of the accused have been arrested while the juvenile has been taken into police protection, the officer said.
Meanwhile, the body of 20-year-old Vansh Kashyap, who drowned in the Ganga canal during the clash on August 31, was recovered on Wednesday evening and sent for post-mortem.
According to a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, four youths jumped into the Ganga canal to save themselves during the clash. While three managed to come out, Vansh drowned in the canal, police said.
Angry people also tried to block the road outside Bhopa police station on Wednesday following the recovery of the body.
Security has been tightened in the area and additional police personnel deployed as a precautionary measure, officials said. PTI COR KIS SHS
