Bhubaneswar, Jun 19 (PTI) Odisha Vigilance on Friday unearthed assets worth crores of rupees, including 49 high-value plots, two farmhouses, 940 gram gold jewellery, 2.5 kg silver and cash, during raids on the properties of a government engineer in Koraput district, officials said.
The raids were conducted in connection with allegations that Satyanarayan Sethy, assistant executive engineer of Kotpad block, possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, Vigilance SP (Jeypore Division) S Susree said.
Simultaneous searches were carried out at seven locations linked to Sethy, including his residences, properties and office premises.
During the searches, Vigilance officials detected 49 high-value plots, two farmhouses, around 940 grams of gold jewellery, 2.5 kg of silver, and Rs 5.48 lakh in cash.
Two flats and bank and postal deposits worth Rs 60.92 lakh were also traced and are under verification, the SP said.
One farmhouse, spread over 10.03 acres with mango and eucalyptus plantations, was found in Boriguma block of Koraput district.
Another farmhouse, spread across 4.35 acres with Nilgiri plantation, was also located in the same area, Susree said.
As further search operation is going on, more assets are likely to be unearthed, another officer said.
A total of seven teams of Odisha Vigilance, led by seven DSPs, nine inspectors, 11 ASIs, and other supporting staff conducted the search on the strength of search warrants issued by the court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore, he said.
According to Vigilance officials, Sethy joined government service in 1998 as a junior engineer and was posted in the office of the chief engineer, Upper Kolab Division, Koraput, with an initial salary of Rs 7,100 per month.
He was promoted to the rank of assistant engineer in 2015 and posted at Kotpad block. In June 2020, he was transferred to Boriguma block in the same district.
