4 women killed in lightning strikes in Jharkhand

Medininagar/Chatra, Jul 22 (PTI) Four women died in incidents of lightning strikes while sowing paddy in Jharkhand’s Palamu, Chatra and Hazaribag districts on Tuesday, police said.

Medininagar SDPO Manibhusan Prasad said the incident in Palamu took place in Sahdeva village, where a woman, identified as Asha Devi (45), was killed in a lightning strike when she was sowing paddy in a field.

In Basdih village, Manti Devi (40) died after lightning struck her, while in Chatra, a 45-year-old woman identified as Bilaso Devi was killed, officials said.

Another woman was injured in lightning strike in Kishunpur village of the district and admitted to a community health centre in Tandwa, they said.

In Hazaribag, a 35-year-old woman – Sunita Devi – died in a lightning strike at Kusmbha village, police said.

“She was brought to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital at Hazaribag where doctors declared her brought-dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination,” a police officer said. PTI CORR SAN BDC SAN RBT
