Jaipur, Nov 8 (PTI) A fire broke out in four shops at Kanota Complex in Jaipur’s walled city, spreading from two shops on the ground floor to two others on the first floor, police said.
No casualties were reported.
Six fire tenders were deployed after the fire on Saturday night and the blaze was brought under control shortly after midnight following hours of firefighting.
Police from Manak Chowk police station reached the spot along with fire brigade teams after receiving information about the incident. The market was closed as a precautionary measure and electricity supply to the area was disconnected.
Additional DCP (North First) Alok Kumar Singhal said the fire broke out at a ladies’ suit shop. A fire tender stationed at Badi Chaupar was initially sent to the spot, while smaller fire tenders were later deployed due to narrow lanes.
The traders had closed their shops around 8 pm and left for home amid Diwali festivities. The fire broke out about an hour later and spread rapidly due to clothing material in the shops, police said.
The complex has a slab roof made of wooden planks, which facilitated the spread of fire to the upper-floor shops. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. A short circuit or firecrackers are suspected to have triggered the blaze, police added. PTI AG SKY
