Giridih (Jharkhand), Sep 2 (PTI) Four people, including a couple, were arrested here on Wednesday for allegedly duping more than 30 people of around Rs 10 crore by promising financial assistance for buying vehicles, building houses and other purposes, police said.
Giridih DSP R K Rana told reporters on Wednesday that those arrested have been identified as Mukesh Sinha, the Jharkhand chief of a social welfare organisation, his wife and the organisation’s media in-charge Anisha Sinha, and their two associates — Subodh Singh and Sumit Sinha.
“Police are now investigating the entire network, bank accounts, financial transactions, and the roles of other individuals involved,” he said.
Police said that gullible victims wishing to buy vehicles were asked to deposit between 20 per cent and 60 per cent of the total cost into the organisation’s account, pledging that the remaining amount would be financed through banks.
It has been alleged that the accused had promised to pay the remaining amount through monthly bank loan instalments. Police said that the victims had deposited their savings into the organisation’s account and took out bank loans in their own names.
“The victims alleged that after receiving the vehicles, the organisation failed to pay the loan instalments. Despite more than a year passing, not a single EMI was deposited with the bank. Consequently, the bank is now sending notices to the victims,” the police officer said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that several people across the district have been allegedly defrauded by the accused, police said. PTI COR ANB NSD
