Imphal, Jul 28 (PTI) Thirty-five postal bags carrying ATM cards, passports and letters, which were being transported by the Department of Posts, were burnt allegedly by a group of people in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, an official said on Tuesday.
Ukhrul Sub-Post Office postmaster Wungreipam Rimai said some people torched the parcels in an area between Yaingangpokpi and Litan Road on Monday.
“Thirty postal bags meant for Ukhrul, four for Somdal and one for Kamjong were destroyed. The Department of Posts is assessing the extent of damage and taking steps to restore services,” he said.
On Monday, a mob enforced a blockade on NH 202 in Ukhrul, intercepted a convoy of trucks near Shangkai Kuki village and destroyed several items being transported from Imphal to the district headquarters.
