Latur, Jun 14 (PTI) Three women devotees were killed and 10 other persons were injured after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) crashed into another vehicle in Maharashtra’s Latur district in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
The accident occurred around 1.30 am on the Latur-Ausa highway near Budhoda village.
A speeding Hyundai Creta rammed into a “Cruiser”, a multi-utility vehicle, carrying devotees from Omerga in Dharashiv district to Purushottam Puri in Beed district, they said.
The impact left three women devotees, identified as Milavati Patil (53), Reshma Patil (29) and Saroja Patange (42), dead on the spot and 10 other individuals injured.
The seriously injured victims were shifted to Vilasrao Deshmukh Government Medical Science Institute in Latur, officials said.
The extent of damage to the Creta was not known immediately. Police also did not elaborate whether the SUV remained at the site or sped away.
The Ausa police have conducted a spot inspection, and further investigation is underway, said officials. PTI COR NR
