Thane, Oct 12 (PTI) A 28-year-old man suffered minor injuries after a cooking gas cylinder exploded, triggering a fire in a residential building in Thane district on Monday evening, officials said.

The incident took place around 8:10 pm in a room on the first floor of Sainath Apartment in the Datiwali area of Diva town, they said.

The explosion immediately sparked a blaze inside the premises, causing panic among local residents, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).

Upon receiving the alert, emergency response teams, including personnel from Torrent Power Company and firefighters, rushed to the scene equipped with a fire engine and a rescue vehicle.

Fire brigade personnel, with the active assistance of local residents, managed to douse the flames and bring the situation under control, preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring flats, Tadvi informed.

A 28-year-old resident of the building, Vishal Ghadi, was injured in the gas cylinder explosion-cum-fire, he said.

Ghadi suffered minor injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing medical treatment, Tadvi added. PTI COR RSY

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
