Faridabad, Jun 27 (PTI) Police have arrested 20 people and recovered 32 licensed firearms allegedly stolen by an ITI apprentice attached to the Sector 8 police station armoury here, officials said on Saturday.

They said the apprentice is accused of supplying the stolen weapons across three states — Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh — over seven months.

According to police, the investigation revealed that Monu, an ITI student now arrested with his girlfriend by the Crime Branch, was pursuing a computer diploma.

He had joined the police department as an apprentice and was assigned computer-related work at the police station, officials said.

Police said between October 2025 and April 2026, he allegedly stole licensed weapons from the armoury and smuggled them to Sanjay Sunaria, a resident of Tijara in Rajasthan, through his cousin, Vipin.

The weapons were distributed through a network to various individuals in Dharuhera, Bhiwadi, Rewari, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Palwal and Nuh, police said.

A Faridabad Police spokesperson said, “The Crime Branch Sector 30 team arrested the accused, including ITI student Monu, and recovered all the stolen weapons. Negligence of Exempee Sub-Inspector Bijendra Singh, the malkhana in charge, came to light during the investigation. He has been suspended, and a departmental enquiry is underway against him.” However, police did not clarify whether the remaining 19 accused had purchased the weapons from Monu, though it is alleged that he sold them for lakhs of rupees, according to sources.

Police said they recovered Rs 1 lakh from Monu and all the accused have been sent to judicial custody, and further investigation is underway. PTI COR SMV ASD ASD
