Imphal, Aug 5 (PTI) Two suspected cadres of the banned NSCN (IM) were arrested on charges of extortion in Manipur’s Tamenglong district, police said on Wednesday.
The two suspected NSCN (IM) cadres were apprehended from Sibilong along National Highway-37 in the Kaimai police station area on Tuesday, they said.
The arrested men were identified as Gaisuaklung Ngaomei (45), a resident of Bhalok village, and Job Gangmei (29) of Sibilong Part-II, both in Tamenglong district.
Security personnel recovered one live cartridge, Rs 22,000 in cash and two communication sets with chargers from their possession, police said.
In a separate operation, security forces recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from the Sendra Hill area near Loktak Lake in Bishnupur district.
The seized items included a .32 pistol with a magazine, an SBBL gun, a .22 bolt-action rifle, a Jefferson rifle with a magazine, nine locally made carbine firearms with magazines, two locally made MP-5 firearms with magazines, and six packets of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), police said.
