New Delhi: Two people have been detained in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur in connection with the daring robbery at a New Delhi jewellery showroom earlier this week from where they burgled valuables worth over Rs 20 crore.
Superintendent of Police, Bisaspur, Santosh Singh told news agency ANI that Rs 12.50 lakh in cash and over 18 kilograms of gold and diamonds had been seized from an accused in Durg.
The police have been on hot pursuit ever since the heist in South East Delhi’s Jangpura came to light, as the modus operandi suggested meticulous planning and prior knowledge of the showroom’s layout.
The owner discovered the break-in when he walked in Tuesday morning after Monday’s weekly off. The staff found a huge hole in the wall of the strongroom that kept a chunk of the valuables. Jewellery on display had also been stolen, and surveillance equipment damaged.
Several teams of the Delhi Police were formed to catch the thieves, and they suspected it to be a group of at least three.
