New Delhi, Sep 28 (PTI) The ancestral home of Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, who displayed indomitable courage and made supreme sacrifice in defending the borders in Arunachal Pradesh’s Nuranang during the Sino-India War of 1962, will be developed into a modern museum in Uttarakhand, BJP MP Anil Baluni said on Monday.
“I will perform ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ for the construction of the museum at Baba Jaswant Singh Rawat’s ancestral home in Baryun village of Pauri Garhwal on November 17,” he told PTI.
Baluni said that he visited Baryun, Rawat’s ancestral village in Lansdowne assembly constituency in Uttarakhand, on Saturday and paid humble tributes to the immortal martyr of the 1962 Sino-India war at his birthplace, offered salutations to the “sacred soil” and pledged to develop his ancestral home into a “grand museum and a site of inspiration”.
During his visit, the Garhwal MP said he also met and spoke with Rawat’s family members regarding the museum. “They not only consented to its construction but also appreciated this initiative,” Baluni said.
During the Battle of Nuranang in the North-East Frontier Agency (now Arunachal Pradesh) in 1962, Rawat, who was serving in the 4th Battalion of Garhwal Rifles regiment, fought the enemy with great courage and valour.
“Holding the front single-handedly under adverse conditions for three days, he eliminated approximately 300 enemy soldiers and made the ultimate sacrifice on November 17, 1962, while valiantly defending the motherland. He was posthumously awarded the ‘Mahavir Chakra’ for this indomitable courage,” Baluni said.
“The Jaswant Garh War Memorial, located approximately 25 kilometres from Tawang, stands on the very hallowed ground where this great warrior made the ultimate sacrifice. I will bring soil from this site for the ‘Bhoomi Pujan’,” he added.
Baluni said that Rifleman Rawat was enlisted in the 4 Garhwal Rifles on August 19, 1960 at the young age of 19. He was just 21 when he made the supreme sacrifice on November 17, 1962 while valiantly defending the motherland.
“Baryun, Baba Jaswant Singh ji’s ancestral village, is a pilgrimage site of patriotism. It will be developed into a prominent memorial dedicated to the nation’s brave martyrs, allowing visitors from across the country and abroad to witness the extraordinary valour of this ‘Hero of NEFA’ and pay their respects,” he said.
“His sacrifice will continue to inspire generations to come to serve the nation,” the BJP MP added. PTI PK PK KSS
