Gwalior (MP), Aug 31 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was found dead with her throat slit here on Monday morning, with her family alleging that a man who had been pressuring her to marry him was the main suspect.

The girl, who worked at a sari shop, went missing on Sunday night. Her body was found on a hill in Cancer Pahadiya area, police said.

Her maternal uncle Adil Khan told reporters that after returning from work on Sunday evening, she left home again at around 8 pm.

“She did not return and her phone was switched off. We searched for her throughout the night… A man had been pressuring her to marry him, but she and her family were not willing. We suspect that he killed her,” Khan said.

District Superintendent of Police Robin Jain said the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.

“The person suspected by the family is being questioned,” the officer said. PTI COR LAL KRK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
