15-year-old killed in lightning strike

Nagpur, May 13 (PTI) A 15-year-old boy died after being struck by lightning during sudden rain and strong winds in Bhilgaon area of Nagpur on Wednesday evening, police said.

His friend was injured in the incident.

The incident occurred around 5:45 pm on Hastinapur Road under the Yashodhara Nagar police limits.

The two boys had taken shelter under a neem tree to escape the rain when lightning suddenly struck the tree, said an official.

The deceased was identified as Ujjwal Sunil Bhelave (15), a resident of Tiwari Nagar, Bhilgaon, and a Class 10 student. He died on the spot. His friend, Devansh Kapurchand Pardhi (14), a Class 9 student, sustained injuries and was admitted to a nearby private hospital. PTI COR KRK
