Ludhiana: At 2.94 per cent, Punjab’s Covid-19 fatality rate is the worst in the country. Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has been holding review meetings with state health officials via video conferencing to assess the situation.

The focus has also shifted to the state’s rural areas, with government officials claiming that people in villages are reluctant to get themselves tested. With the government ramping up testing in villages, various mobile testing vans were seen entering the rural pockets.

ThePrint visited Bakarpur and Sahnewal villages in the state.

Located on the Airport Road in Mohali, Bakarpur village is known for its shrines and the Mahendra Choudhary Zoological Park. Many people from Ambala and Mohali have settled in this village over the last couple of years.

At a health camp organised in Bakarpur, a team of health workers were seen spending hours trying to motivate residents to come forward and get themselves tested for Covid-19.

In Sahnewal, which is situated around 95 km away from Bakarpur, a mobile testing van was seen entering its narrow lanes to conduct Covid-19 tests.

ThePrint’s National Photo Editor Praveen Jain and Special Correspondent Aneesha Bedi bring you glimpses from the ground.
