New Delhi: An image has been doing the rounds on social media which shows a young woman who was allegedly gangraped and murdered by four Muslim men in Rajasthan.
A user who had shared the image on 7 May, but removed it later, received over 8,000 retweets.
Another tweet by an user, who claims to be an advocate, was similarly retweeted 2,000 times.
One user said the media has failed to pay attention to the brutal crime. The tweet reads: “Everyone is quite all Media. Shameless and disgusting people all so called saleable people. They will not cover it moreover speak or write a word even…Sold out people…Poor girl (sic)”.
Several others have similarly shared the image on Twitter and Facebook, claiming it to be that of a rape victim in Rajasthan.
Fact check
While there have been reports about an alleged gang rape of a minor girl in Rajasthan’s Tonk district, following which three people were arrested and a juvenile was detained on 7 May, the tweets and Facebook posts are inaccurate.
Firstly, the girl in the Rajasthan gang rape incident is alive. Secondly, the image shared by users on social media platforms is that of a woman who was murdered by her husband, a police personnel, in Haryana’s Hisar on 16 April.
