New Delhi: A video has gone viral on social media, falsely claiming that a Hindu girl has been brutally thrashed by some men in Pakistan in the presence of police.

The video shows the girl is being kicked and thrashed by some men, including lawyers, following which, she tries to fight back with a chappal.

A Twitter user, named ‘Rashtravadi Nagendra Nath Neeraj’, shared the video, saying the girl is a ‘Hindu rape victim’ and that this is how Hindus are treated in Pakistan. He even thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for “reducing” their “pain” and posted a hashtag of Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019.

The bill, passed by Lok Sabha Monday, seeks to grant citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan if they faced religious persecution there.

“…Watch the video of this rape victim Hindu girl and ponder over what will happen to Hindus in countries like Pakistan. Thank you, Amit Shah, for trying to reduce their suffering,” read his post.

On Facebook, a user named Gaurav Sharma shared the video on 1 December, which has 10 lakh views and has been shared 37,000 times so far. “This is how women are being treated in Pakistan,” Sharma’s post read.

Another user, Raja Singh, shared the video on Facebook, saying the girl’s only fault was that she was a Hindu.

Fact check

The girl in the video is a Muslim and not a Hindu, as has been claimed.

According to a report by Dawn, the girl, identified as Amrit Shahzadi, was beaten up by a group of people, including lawyers, during her visit to a local court in connection with a land dispute case in October.

The girl, who hails from Shahpur Bhangu in Pakistan’s Punjab province, was not allowed by the lawyers to enter their chamber. The lawyers later dragged her outside by her hair. She was then severely beaten up.
