New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi Wednesday tweeted a photoshopped screenshot, saying a new word — Modilie — has been added to the English dictionary, suggesting that it’s a combination of ‘Modi’ and ‘lie’.
“There’s a new word in the English Dictionary. Attached is a snapshot of the entry :),” Rahul tweeted.

The tweet has been shared 9,300 times with over 31,000 likes. The tweet continues to remain on Gandhi’s timeline.
Fact check
Although Gandhi didn’t name any particular dictionary, the screenshot resembled the Oxford dictionary’s website. A closer look at the screenshot suggested that the logo of the website is different from that of the original site. The original logo of the Oxford dictionary website does not have a full rounded ‘O’, as is seen in Gandhi’s screenshot.
Also, the word ‘Oxford’, which is prominently placed in the original logo, is absent in the screenshot.
Oxford Dictionaries replied to Gandhi’s tweet Thursday, clarifying “the image showing the entry ‘Modilie’ is fake and does not exist in any of our Oxford Dictionaries.”
Rahul returns as social media troll, says BJP
The Bharitya Janata Party (BJP) reacted swiftly to Rahul’s taunt.
BJP spokesperson and MP Narasimha Rao said, “Yesterday @RahulGandhi said he favours a ‘new political language’ to debate issues. 24 hrs later, Congress President returns as a social media troll. His incompetence to articulate real issues is evident in silly tweets. This marks @INCIndia’s steep degeneration. Grow up Rahul!”
