New Delhi: The video of a body lying in a pool of blood resurfaced Wednesday on social media platforms with the claim that the victim was a Hindu man who was knifed to death by some Muslims in Andhra Pradesh.

The original video, of which a snippet was being shared, was first circulated in mid June.

A user named Akshay Shashtri had shared it on Facebook on 16 June. The clip shows a young man in a red shirt getting stabbed by two attackers on the side of a road. The victim can be seen falling to his back, with a sharp object protruding from his chest.

Shashtri’s post, which has been shared 151 times so far, claimed that the victim was Hindu and his attackers were Muslims. “In Andhra Pradesh, Muslim youths killed a Hindu youth with a knife in broad daylight.”

The post also claimed this it wasn’t the first time that hate crime on a “Hindu” has taken place, several others had been committed in states such as “Kerala, Kashmir, West Bengal, Rajasthan”.

It ended with a warning: “Many Hindus hide behind the veil of casteism and remain silent on such issues, revealing their own cowardice. Every Hindu will suffer the consequences of this silence. A day will come when Hindus will be killed inside their own house. The desire to become rich has driven Hindus away from their religion and culture.”

Similarly, another Facebook user Shusil Ji had also shared the video on 14 June with the claim that it took place in Guwahati, Assam.

Fact check

The incident originally took place on 5 June when 22-year-old Mohammad Imran Khan was stabbed in the middle of the day in Hyderabad’s Old City. He had allegedly gone out to recharge his mobile phone when he was brutally attacked.

The Hyderabad Police had on 10 June arrested four men in connection with the crime, all of whom were the victim’s half-brothers — Mohammed Mehtab Khan (25), Mohammed Taleb Khan (28), Mohd Arbaz Khan (19), and Mohammed Amir (19). Another man, Mohammed Ghouse Khan was reportedly absconding at the time.

According to police, the attack was a result of a family dispute. The victim was the son of Habeebunnisa, one of the two wives to Mohammed Ghalib Khan. After Ghalib’s death, Habeebunnisa’s eldest son took over Ghalib’s government job. The other wife and her sons allegedly held a grudge and decided to murder one of Habeebunnisa’s sons.
